Service for Mental Health in community „Medijana“ is a first center in Serbia with take care in mental health in community. It’s develop with support of ministry of health of Serbia and stability pact of sousteastern Europe. Center is create on prototypes from whole Europe ( in Italy, London, Greece, Macedonia...) but its adapt with our human and material resources. Service for Mental Health in community „Medijana“ Niš successfully working already three years and covers up psychiatry protections clients from biggest municipality-municipality “Medijana”, with 130 000 citizens. Service is funcioning on territorially principles.
In Center is funcioning three multidisciplinary teams A, B, C. Which team has two nurses, two doctors, pshycologist and social worker. With this approach we have therapy continuity.
Center has five segments:
- Ambulatory part - wherein happened classic psychiatry exam, taking the therapy, services of measuring vital values and strangulation's.
- Day hospital – wherein take care of center clients, who needs that kind of treatment.
- Segment for psycho therapy – wherein treats individually, marriage, family problems with special psycho methods.
- House visits – this kind of psychiatric protection is first develop during the opening this center. Every members of teams are included in this kind of psychiatric protection with first appointment with client personal or during the phone call. This kind of psychiatric protection point out like extremely good because for the first time we are matting In home surround with client and his family were we can take valuation of his psychic condition and family relations. If client lives alone we help him to learn on doing life activities.
- Segment for psycho rehabilitation( PSR) – first time with opening of this center PSR is now in front of hospital terms. Depends of individual vocations , interested and needs of clients , center give to them a different kind of this treatment which is based on:
- Sociotheraphyst educative groups of courses and seminars ( former languages, dancing, cooking, bonton, training of social skills, helping to live in community and etc.)
- Occupation work rehability activities (reading of news papers, watching TV, making nice tings, sport activities)
- Sections (art, literal, music, sports)
- Tours
- Going to exhibitions, sports manifestations, cinema, theater
Coming in to center is a free veil. You can come in center from territory of municipality Medijana directly for your one decision, with guideline of GIP.doctor or from recommendation of psychiatrist after hospital treatment.
What that is new on previous praks is service of house visiting from members of all times and section of pshyhosociorehabilitation, first time independent of hospital, when patients coming from their own houses, in center do the activities from their own decision and interests and then come back in their families.
Treatment is based on cooperation between center stuff, interest from that treatment with including families, persons from first hand life ambient who wants to cooperative. Relation is based on respect between, understanding in athmosfer of partnership and league.
Center is open from 8am. to 8pm. every work day. When is open clients have directly phone line three fixed and one mobile, where thay can get all needed information's. From 8 pm to 8 am in the morning of work days you can get information's from private mobile line and in weekend and celebration days. Preparations do the all members of teams.
Inter sector collaborating with institutes and people on town level is excellent. All needed activities for clients of center we do wery easy within help from people from social mid. From in one side of SPH “Gornja Toponica” and the other society's of handicrafts mans and businessman's of town Niš we have contract of business-technical collaboration where people from that societies will gave the education from people from our centers in jobs for thay are interested, after the finished education thay will get the certificate with that thay can find a job.
Our clients get the free tickets for cinemas, theaters and other cultural manifestations on town level.
Collaboration with police station and emergency sector in need for pressure hospitalization is expecting.
In Health hospital are clients have their own doctors where thay can have quick examines. If client is not capable to go alone instead of him go nurse from team who take care of them.
Very big number of cultural and public workers are answers on our calls to help clients in their power.
Center “Medijana” like independent entity without help of community society could not exist. All activities that we are doing in center are part of anti stigma campaign that we are doing everyday presentations, educations, and other possibilities that we have, to show that mentally ill people live in our ambiance without any different from us.
